The most important and well known poem in Polish literature. It’s printed on special artistic paper.
Adam Mickiewicz the greatest Polish poet ever known, was a genius in poetry just like Chopin in music. He would certainly have been a Nobel prize winner if this award were issued at that epoque.
“Pan Tadeusz” which is his masterpiece, tells a turbulent history of enmity between two noble families. With the references to Kenneth R. Mackenzie: “The life, the scenes, the characters which the poem described, though those of a vanished generation in a remote corner of Lithuania, seemed to succeeding generations of Poles to embody the ideals, the sentiments and the way of life of the whole nation. As such the reputation of the poem is secured.(…) For Soplicowo is not to be found on any map of Poland, nor anywhere on this earth; is a corner of that heavenly country to which all men belong”.
With reference to Czesław Miłosz (the Nobel prize winner from 1987) “Pan Tadeusz”, which is very hard to classify, is known to be the last epic poem in the world literature that can be compared to Homer’s “Iliad” and “Odyssey”. His work wasn’t so well-known as it ought to have been owing to the unique language (Polish) he used.
Now we have the pleasure to present this great work in English for you to enjoy and appreciate.
