Some literary works resist uniformity from the beginning.
Marion Gräf’s Liebodrom was conceived not as a stable object repeated identically, but as a
field of formal variation. The poems themselves move through successive stages of
emotional and existential transformation, and the material structure of the edition responds
directly to that instability.
Commissioned by the German press Mundtot, the work was issued in seventeen distinct
forms. Certain copies unfold like maps; others resemble notebooks with detachable leaves;
some assume triangular structures whose geometry alters the act of reading itself.
Leather, silk, collage elements, original photography, handmade papers, and experimental
binding techniques combine to produce objects existing somewhere between poetry volume,
artist’s book, and intimate archive.
The edition belongs consciously to that European tradition in which the physical structure of
the book participates actively in literary meaning rather than merely containing it.
Because of the highly individual nature of the copies, selected variants entered specialised
private collections shortly after publication. Additional examples may be presented selectively
