Niccolò Machiavelli, The Prince

Few political works have exercised such persistent influence upon the European imagination
as Machiavelli’s The Prince.
Feared, prohibited, admired, and endlessly debated, the text has survived not because it
flatters power, but because it describes it with unusual clarity. Machiavelli strips political
authority of idealisation and examines instead the mechanisms through which rule is
secured, maintained, performed, and remembered.
This collector’s edition approaches the work not as historical curiosity, but as a text of
enduring psychological and political force. The bindings respond accordingly. Deep green,
graphite, black, and subdued violet leathers create a visual language oscillating between
ceremony and restraint.
Each copy incorporates hand-tooled sculptural leather onlays whose structures never repeat
identically. Light falls differently across every surface, producing subtle shifts between
shadow, relief, and heraldic form.
Illustrated by Sebastian Krupiński and presented in the classic translation by W.K. Marriott,
the edition was conceived as a unified literary and visual statement. The object does not
merely contain the text; it stages it.
Strictly limited to eighty-eight numbered copies, the edition was created for private and
institutional libraries concerned with political philosophy, European intellectual history, and
the art of the book itself.
